The Minnesota sculptor conceived the piece as a metaphor for the average
citizen’s increasing reliance on municipal water distribution systems.
MacGuffie joined readymade materials to comment on what we take for
granted—above all, that water is plentiful and available. The sculpture’s stark
industrial forms serve as a powerful reminder of the elaborate bureaucratic
