The area covers 58 square miles along the Myakka River and is one the state's largest and oldest parks. The Myakka River, was Florida’s first state-designated wild and scenic river.,

The park offer visitors the opportunity for sailing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking and is also popular with hikers and cyclists with its miles of trails and back roads.
