On Saturday 9th March 2024 at 11:04 UTC, Pasi OH2BNH a radio amateur from Helsinki, Finland recorded on the GMA Dashboard (www.cqgma.org/ds2001.php) that Tapio OH2CKU a radio amateur from Finland was operating from Natura 2000 Evon Alue (OHFF-0644) on the 80 m amateur radio band.
Natura 2000 Evon Alue (OHFF-0644) is a Natura 2000 protected area in southern Finland it is located between the towns of Hämeenlinna and Padasjoki.
The protected area of 7860 Hectares of mixed forest in a landscape of bogs, small lakes and pools.
The area is home to a variety of protected animals including flying squirrel, lynx and otter the reserve is also populated by bird species including gray-headed woodpeckers, barn owls and ospreys.
The Natura 2000 network extends across the European Unioin and protects many of Europe's most valuable and threatened habitats and species.
