On Thursday 4th April 2024 at 14:51 UTC, Fred DL8DXL, a radio amateur from Germany, made contact with Karl OE5JKL/P, a radio amateur from Austria, who was operating from Nature Park Buchberg (OEFF-0048), on the 40m amateur radio band.
Nature Park Buchberg (OEFF-0048), is a protected area of 34 hectares which lies to the north of Salzburg in the north of Austria. It was designated as a Nature Park in 2009 and is an IUCN Management Category IV area.
An IUCN Management Category IV area is an area to protect particular species or habitats and are managed to prioritise this objective.
Karl was at the summit of Buchberg (801 metres asl) while he was at the reserve and made a total of 21 contacts for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
