On Thursday 21st March 2024 at 15:34 UTC, Janos HA8TI a radio amateur from Hungary made contact with Chris DL1GKC/P a radio amateur from Germany who was operating from the German part of the Nature Reserve/Biosphäre Pfälzerwald-Nordvogesen (DLFF-0026) on the 20m amateur radio band.
The Palatinate Forest and Northern Vosges UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is located on the German-French border and the UNESCO biosphere reserve crosses the border and includes land in both countries.
The reserve has areas of dense forest, some imposing sandstone cliffs and numerous meandering streams. There is history too with many castles which may be in ruins or imposing structures.
