The Ooty Radio Telescope is located near Ootacamund (Ooty), south India and is operated by TIFR. The Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT) has a similar design to the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (an off-axis parabolic cylinder), and is 530 m long and 30 m wide. It operates at a frequency of 326.5 MHz with a maximum bandwidth of 15 MHz at the front-end.

The long axis of the telescope cylindrical paraboloid is parallel to the Earth's rotation axis, and it has an equatorial mount (about this long axis) in order to track targets over long time periods. In the north-south direction, the telescope operates as a phased-array and is steerable by varying the phase gradients.
