The Point of Ayre is the most northerly point on the Isle of Man and is the termination point of Ramsey Bay. It lies 6 miles north of Ramsey as the crow flies.
The Point of Ayre is closer to Scotland than it is to the Isle of Man’s Capital, Douglas.
The coastline in this area is changing as evidenced by the presence of the two lighthouses. The smaller lighthouse was built some 70 years after the taller lighthouse and is 250 yards closer to the sea than the original.
The newer lighthouse was moved in 1950 due to the continued build-up of pebbles on the beach and at the same time it was increased in height.
