On Saturday 30th March 2024 at 17:00 UTC, David OK4KOP, a radio amateur from the Czech Republic, made contact with Mirek OK2MD/P, a radio amateur from the Czech Republic, who was operating from PR Babí lom (OKFF-0359), on the 2m amateur radio band.
PR Babí lom (OKFF-0359)[Grandmother quarry], is a protected area of 24.9076 hectares lying to the south-east of Prague and north of Brno in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1990 as a Nature Reserve and is an IUCN Management Category III area.
An IUCN Management Category III area is set aside to protect a specific natural monument. Examples of natural monuments include a landform, sea mount, submarine cavern, geological feature e.g. a cave or a living feature e.g. an ancient grove. These areas are often quite small but have a high visitor value.
