PR Vysoka (OMFF-0172)

On Sunday 24th March 2024 at 13:00 UTC, David OK4KOP, a radio amateur from the Czech Republic made contact with Ivan OM1ACK/P, a radio amateur from the Slovak Republic, who was operating from PR Vysoka (OMFF-0172) on the 2m amateur radio band.

David was operating from the summit of Vysoká mountain (754m asl) which is inside the reserve. While at the summit David made 8 contacts in total working on the 2m amateur radio band for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

PR Vysoka (OMFF-0172), is a protected area of 80.5300 hectares lying to the north of Bratislava in the east of Slovakia. It was designated as a Nature Reserve in 1988 and is an IUCN Management Category 1a area.

An IUCN Management Category 1a area is an area which is strictly protected to protect biodiversity (and also possibly geomorphological and/or geological features). Human recreational and other use is strictly limited and controlled to guarantee the protection of the areas conservation values.

The reserve was established for the protection of the natural forest and rock habitats of the Lesser Carpathians in order to protect the endangered species living in those habitats.
