On Monday 25th March 2024 at 12:58 UTC, Jurgen ON3UA, a radio amateur from Belgium made contact with Jean-marie F5NLX/P, a radio amateur from France who was operating from the Réserve Naturelle de l'Etang de St Bonnet (FFF-1191) on the 40m amateur radio band. Réserve Naturelle de l'Etang de St Bonnet (FFF-1191), is a protected area of 51.4 hectares lying in between Vaoiron and Lyon, in France. It was designated as a Regional Nature Reserve in 2011 and is an IUCN Management Category IV area.
An IUCN Management Category IV area is an area to protect particular species or habitats and are managed to prioritise this objective.
The protected area incorporates a lake, reed beds, meadows and woods and is buffer regions to help mitigate the effects of flooding.
