On Friday 29th March 2024 at 16:13 UTC, Klaus DL6MST, a radio amateur from Germany, made contact with Chris EA8/DL4FO/P, a radio amateur from Germany who was operating from the Reserva Natural Integral Benchijigua (EAFF-0624), on the 17m amateur radio band. Chris made a total of 59 contacts while at the reserve.
Reserva Natural Integral Benchijigua (EAFF-0624), is a protected area of 483 hectares located in the caldera of the same name in the San Sebastián municipality. It was established in 2010 as a Special Area of Conservation under the EU Habitats Directive and is part of the Natura 2000 network.
Natura 2000 aims to protect many of Europe's most vulnerable and threatened habitats and species.
