On Sunday 4th September 2022, Joyce K0JJW and Bob K0NR, a couple of radio amateurs from Monument, CO reached the summit of Rito Alto Peak and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

They made 28 contacts in total working on the 23 cm, 70 cm, 1.25 metre and the 2 metre amateur radio bands.

The summit of Rito Alto Peak is 4204 metres (13793 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
