On Sunday 31st March 2024 at 08:58 UTC, Lothar DL3HXX, a radio amateur from Germany, made contact with Benni HB9HNT/P, a radio amateur from Switzerland, who was operating from Ruine Neutoggenburg Dry Grassland (SG) (HBFF-0260), on the 40m amateur radio band.

Ruine Neutoggenburg Dry Grassland (SG) (HBFF-0260), is a protected area of 0.07 hectares located in the St. Gallen Canton, to the east of Zurich in the east of Switzerland. It was designated in 2010 as an area of Dry Grassland and Pasture of National Importance and is an IUCN Management Category IV area. It has reference number 647 on the Federal Inventory maintained by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN).

An IUCN Management Category IV area is an area to protect particular species or habitats and are managed to prioritise this objective.

Benni was at the summit of Burgruine Neu Toggenburg (1064 metres asl) while he was at the reserve and made a total of 24 contacts for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
