On Monday 19th September 2022, Elena EA4DOS/P and Alejandro EA4DON/P, a couple of radio amateurs from Spain reached the summit of Samelar and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
They made 52 contacts in total working on the 40,30 and 20 metre HF amateur radio bands.
The summit of Samelar is 2231metres (7320 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
