Silverburn Weir

Silverburn Weir (StreetView)
There are several stone built weirs on the Silverburn as it flows through Silverdale in and around Rushen Abbey and Ballasalla.

These weirs were constructed in order to build up a head of water which could then be diverted to power the cornmills in the area.

This weir pictured on Street View in May 2019 has a marked vertical fall which has created a rather picturesque waterfall.
