The Tatev is an Armenian Apostolic Christian monastery dating from the 9th-century.
The monastery is situated on a volcanic basalt plateau near the village of Tatev, Syunik Province, Armenia.
The monastery perched on a deep gorge through which the Vorotan River flows.
Tatev was the seat of the Bishop of Syunik and has played a key role in the regions history as a centre of spiritual, cultural, political and economic activity.
