The Bitches

The Bitches are a line of jagged rocks which jut out into the Ramsey Sound from Ramsey Island.

The Ramsey Sound is also the location for one of Britains most spectacular tidal races also known as The Bitches where water is forced to flow quickly through a gap.

Some of The Bitches rocks rise several metres above the waterline. During a tidal race event tidal currents can reach several knots in the Sound while around the rocks they are even faster. The rocks can also cause standing waves, eddies and eddy lines to form downstream.
