Built in 1930 for Dr. Wesley Creveling Bowers and his wife Gladys Seward Bowers by prominent New York City architect Leroy P. Ward, The Bouwerie was designed as a Mediterranean-style-villa that used the dune to nestle the house into its surroundings.

The home was later owned by Greek shipping magnate Manuel Michael Kulukundis. His estate sold the property, which had fallen into disrepair, in 2011 for $25M, and was subsequently demolished, despite the home being on the National Register of Historic Places. The Town of Southampton's Architectural Review Board deemed it to be unworth of saving since it was built after 1926.

A modern X-shaped mansion is currently being built in it's place.
