The Printworks in Manchester

The Printworks in Manchester (StreetView)
The Printworks is an urban entertainment venue with cinemas, bars and clubs. The Printworks is located on the corner of Corporation Street in the centre of Manchester in England.

The Printworks was originally a 19th century newspaper printing press started by Edward Hulton and it was later expanded in 1873. In 1929 The Printworks became the largest newpaper printing press in Europe. The site housed the printing press until 1986. After closure The Printworks was left abandoned for over a decade and building fell derelict.

After the 1996 bombing in Manchester and redevelopment of the centre of Manchester The Printworks re-opened, but this time as a cinema, bars and clubs. The new Printworks was opened in 2000 by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Inside The Printworks there is an Odeon cinema with a 365,000-sqaure-foot screen. The cinema has smaller rooms set over four floors. This also meant that the cinema has North West England's first IMAX screen. The rest of The Printworks has a Virgin Active fitness club, a Hard Rock Café and a Tiger Tiger night club.

A special feature can also be seen inside The Printworks. Its original internal railway for newspapers and the turntable used to switch tracks were added as a feature to the floor.
