Toilet Seat Cut is a channel dug in the seagrass in the mid 1900s by a local man named Vernon Lamp. The channel got it's name from the decorated toilet seats that sit atop the channel markers. It's not definitively known why the toilet seats were placed there, but local lore says that, following Hurricane Donna in 1960, when household debris was scattered around the area, a single toilet seat was found hanging on one of the markers. Locals found this funny and began decorating seats and hanging them on each of the markers.
