On Wednesday 6th March 2024, David ZL3DRN and Geoff ZL3GA, two radio amateurs from New Zealnd reached the summit of Umukarikari and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

They made 43 contacts in total working on the 2m, 40m, 20m, 15m and 10m amateur radio bands.

The summit of Umukarikari is 1591 metres (5219 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
