Upside down traffic lights

Upside down traffic lights (StreetView)
When the city of Syracuse installed traffic lights at the intersection of Tompkins Street and Milton Avenue in the Irish neighborhood of Tipperary Hill in 1925, it didn't sit well with the locals that the "British" red light was above the "Irish" green. Local youths would throw stones to break the red lights until the city decided to display the green lights on top in 1928.
