Van Hool ExquiCity 18 (“Light Tram”)

Van Hool ExquiCity 18 (“Light Tram”) (StreetView)
One of Translink’s ExquiCity 18 vehicles which operates their cross city rapid transit services branded as “Gilder” (G1 & G2). These were inaugurated on 3 September 2018.

The Van Hool ExquiCity 18 (“Light Tram”) is an articulated bus which has an overall length of approximately 18m (59 feet). The buses have 3 entry/exit doors. The articulation is asymmetrical with the front section with 2 doors being longer than the rear section with a single door.

As with many ‘metro’ systems on the British mainland which operate modern trams there is a larger standing area than those usually found on convectional bus chassis in the UK and Ireland.

The ExquiCity 18 is a low emission bus rather than a full electric vehicle as it is powered by a diesel hybrid electrical engine.
