Wisterman’s Wood Is a fragment of Britian’s once widespread template rainforest found on Dartmoor in Devon southwest England.
The standout tree species in the wood is the sessile oak, Quercus petraea. Other notable species are holly, hazel and rowan.
In Lost Rainforests of Britain, Guy Shrubsole claims that the oak tree is not what marks out Britian’s temperate rainforest, rather it is the other plants that grow on them, the epiphytes.
The most common epiphytes are lichens, bryophytes and ferns. On Street View the mosses and lichens can clearly be seen both on the trees and covering the rocks and boulders on the ground.
