Description:Clifton Railway Viaduct (left) was built in 1846 over the river Irwell. The railroad is long gone but the great viaduct remains.

Clifton Aqueduct (right) took the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal over the Irwell. It was built in 1796. The canal is mostly dry although a little stretch of water remains where it goes under the railway viaduct. Parts of this canal are being restored.
