Glienicke Bridge - Bridge of Spies

Glienicke Bridge - Bridge of Spies (StreetView)
The Glienicke Bridge straddles the Havel River near Potsdam, west of Berlin. The bridge is known as the bridge of spies because it was utilized as an exchange point of captured spies between America and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

The most famous exchange took place on February 10, 1962 with the American releasing Soviet spy Colonel Rudolf Abel in exchange for American U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers.

The 2015 movie directed by Steven Spielberg, "Bridge of Spies" is based on the Abel-Powers swap.
