Miller School

Henry Ford attended classes at Miller School in Springwells Township, Michigan from 1873-74. The Greenfield Village Miller School, a reproduction built in Greenfield Village, represents Henry Ford’s ideas about education. Ford strongly believed in the traditional principals taught in rural 19th-century one-room schools. In addition to reading, writing, and arithmetic, children learned through textbooks, such as the McGuffey Readers, the values of thrift, hard work, and honesty. Today, visiting students and teachers spend the day experiencing the lessons and school yard games found in one-room schools during the 1870’s.
