Mahony was Frank Lloyd Wright's protege and chief designer. She was the first licensed female architect in the US in 1898.

Wright had the commission for 7 houses on Millikin Place but after some sketches he yeeted to Europe, abandoning his family and the Millikin Place work was continued by Mahony.

Walter B Griffin did the landscaping on this home as well as Robert Mueller's house and the Irving House down the street. Griffin and Mahoney later married.
