The Al-Hosn Fort in the centre of Abu Dhabi, is the former home of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, since 1966 Ruler of Abu Dhabi and 1971 President of the UAE. The interior courtyard is a haven of tranquility in traditional Arab style, in marked contrast with the glass and concrete of the modern city beyond its walls. It is by far the oldest building in Abu Dhabi - parts of it date from 1793.

"The interior courtyard is a haven of tranquility in traditional Arab style..." in a country where most of the population are serfs.
