Former City Road Underground Station

Former City Road Underground Station (StreetView)
City Road was an underground station in London that opened 17th November 1901 and closed 8th August 1922. The station was opened in 1901 as part of the City & South London Railway's extension. The station closed in 1922 due to low passenger service.

What's left today:
Not much of the station remains, but the original structure around the original lift shaft still remains at street level, while the rest of the station building has been demolished. The orignial tube tunnels still remain at track level.

Note:
In 1916 there was a death at the station. One passenger was killed when one of the guards signalled for the train to depart before all the passengers had alighted.
