Gotham village sign with Batman and weather vane

The village of Gotham in England presumably gave the name to New York City by the American author Washington Irving in the Salmagundi satirical papers when he was in England and learned the mad stories of the village.

So the way wasn't long to the the creators of Batman to have the name of their city.

You see Batman rapelling on the right lower side of the sign.
