Knowles Auxiliary Army Airfield No. 1

Knowles Auxiliary Army Airfield No. 1 (Google Maps)

This field was used during WW2 as one of 4 satellite airfields for Hobbs AAF (14 miles southwest),

Which trained bombardiers & the crews of 4-engine bombers.

Knowles Aux #1 may have been constructed at some point in 1943,

The Hobbs Aux #1 Airfield was evidently closed at some point in 1956,

as it was no longer depicted on the October 1956 Roswell Sectional Chart.

It appears to not ever have been reused for civilian aviation, most likely due to its extremely remote location.
