On Tuesday 25th July 2023, Ioan YO5IA/P & Mihaela YO5MCM/P, a couple of radio amateurs from Romania, reached the summit of Mezea and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

They made 38 contacts in total working on the 40m and 20m amateur radio bands.

The summit of Mezea is 2125 metres (6972 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
