On Thursday 17th November 2022, Daniel PY2TDB, a radio amateur from Brazil reached the summit of Pico do Gavião and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
He made 43 contacts in total working on the 70cm UHF, 2 metre VHF and the 10 metre HF amateur radio bands.
The summit of Pico do Gavião is 1663 metres (5456 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA groups database.
