Since 1995, the Batavia Yard in Lelystad, Netherlands, has been engaged in building a replica of one of the biggest and most famous warships in Dutch history. The yard is internationally renowned for its reconstruction of the VOC merchantman Batavia, built between 1985 and 1995. With 7 Provinciƫn (it was written this way in the 17th century), the yard continues to apply its method of reconstruction, which can be characterized as a collaboration of scholars and craftsmen. The Batavia Yard is a private trust and receives no government funding.
