He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017 by Loretta Lynn and into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018.

He signed with Arista Nashville in 1989, becoming the first signee, here he put out his first album, Here in the Real World, in 1990. He has been induced into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. His business ventures include the Alan Jackson Collection sold at Cracker Barrel, and an endorsement deal with Ford.
