In 1754 today's district court was established for the conference councilor Christian Friedrich von Heespen. The then Danish Foreign Minister Scheele acquired the property around 1810, but had to flee during the Schleswig-Holstein uprising in 1848. When it was taken over by Prussia after the German-Danish War in 1864, the building was converted into a royal district court.
