Sidney Crosby (StreetView)
Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby (born August 7, 1987) is seen here in an ad for Reebok.

Crosby was the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL draft. He began his pro career with Pittsburgh a few months later.

In his rookie year, he set the NHL record for the youngest player to record 100 points in a season. He led the league in scoring in 2007. In 2009, he became the youngest captain of a Stanley Cup winning team. In 2010, he scored the gold medal-winning goal in overtime in the Winter Olympic Games. That same year, he led the NHL in goal scoring. He suffered a severe concussion in January 2011 that sidelined him for much of the next 14 months.

His birthdate (8/7/87) is reflected in his jersey number 87 and his first big contract extension for $8.7 million per year.
