The Elephant’s Nest Inn on its website describes itself as a dog friendly B&B located on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon near the town of Tavistock.
The stone built slate roof building dates from the sixteenth century, but the 3 guest rooms are very modern and have air conditioning and wi-fi. There is high standard restaurant on the premises.
The inn is located within the Dartmoor National Park and is a well-placed stopover for tourists exploring the Park, East Cornwall and West Devon.
The pub’s unusual name is said to derive from a former owner who was rather portly and spent his time behind the bar perched on a stool. A certain patron of the inn described the owner as looking like an elephant on its nest, and the name stuck.
