The Tivoli Theater

The Tivoli Theater (StreetView)
After almost 2 years of construction, the Tivoli Theater opened on March 19, 1921, costing $1 million, a huge sum for the day, making it one of the most lavish and luxurious theaters in Tennessee and known as "Jewel of the South". In the 1960's, the theater declined as people gravitated to television. The City of Chattanooga purchased the Tivoli Theatre in 1976, and 10 years later, the city restored it to its original glory, reopening it as a preforming arts venue. Today, the Tivoli Theatre is home to the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, as well as concerts, dance, and Broadway shows.
