On Saturday 6th January 2024, Warren ZL2AJ, a radio amateur from North Island New Zealand, reached the summit of Tunupō and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

He made 19 contacts in total working on the 2m, 40m and 15m amateur radio bands.

The summit of Tunupō is 1568 metres (5144 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
