"This pond was created in 1953 as a swimming pool and symbolic site by an English ecologist named Marietta Pallis(1882-1963) who rented and then owned the marshland property of Long Gores, Hickling. The pond is situated on the Norfolk Broads, and is a double-headed Byzantine eagle with crown with the two-barred cross of Constantine on one side and the three-barred papal cross on the other, and the Greek letters MP below. The ecologist and her friends used to bathe in the waters and she is buried with a close female companion on the central island."
