The Funil Hydroelectric Power Plant was built on the Paraíba do Sul River, in the place known as Salto do Funil in the municipality of Resende, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It has a domed concrete dam, with double curvature, unique in Brazil.

Its construction had already been planned since the 1930s, but only in 1961 were the works started by the Companhia Hidrelétrica do Vale do Paraíba (Chevap). In 1965, the plant was absorbed by Eletrobrás, which, two years later, designated Furnas to complete the construction.
