From www.delcotimes.com:

American Viscose, the company that created rayon, entered the picture in 1910, first with a textile plant and then a subsidized housing community for its workers called Viscose Village.

It didn’t take long for word to spread as the population of Marcus Hook more than tripled from 1,573 to 5,324 between 1910 and 1920.

In 1978, FMC Corp., a cellophane manufacturer that occupied the former American Viscose property, closed its doors, putting 700 people out of work.
