William Wallace's birthplace memorial

This memorial stands near a site which, according to long-standing tradition, is said to be the birthplace of Sir William Wallace.

Sir William Wallace (Born around 1270, died 23 August 1305) was a Scottish landowner who became one of the main leaders during the Wars of Scottish Independence.

He became famous through the highly fictionalized 1995 Academy Award-winning epic film Braveheart.
