This is a is a national park in the NW corner of Wyoming, with small portions extending into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the 42nd U.S. Congress through the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act and signed into law by President Grant on 3/1/1872.
Yellowstone was the 1st national park in America, and is also widely understood to be the world's 1st national park. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful, 1of its most popular. While it represents many types of biomes, subalpine forest is the most abundant. It's part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.
Was listed as a World Heritage Site in Danger from 1995 to 2003.
