Parabellum's picture Looks like a radial engine to me. I'm thinking Skyraider.

Pdunn's picture You're right, it does look a little radial-ish. If not the Skyraider, how about a P-47 Thunderbolt?

Parabellum's picture I thought that at first, but the Thunderbolt has distinctively elliptical wingtips.
Hinkkanen @ 2007-02-09 06:22:46
Hinkkanen's picture Looks like North American AT-6 Texan to me. They were often converted to represent various WWII aircraft for movies because they were (and are) easily and more cheaply available than the real thing.

Pdunn's picture Here's a view from the other side.

I think Hinkkanen could be right. It does look Texan-ish, except for the canopy, which is smaller and farther back than on a standard Texan, and I think the wings have been configured to look Mustangish.

Parabellum's picture Got an email reply from the airport manager:

"(T)he old world two aircraft you see on the Apron near the terminal is a T-6 Warbird that belongs to a Mr. Ott. He is the guy who comes to the airport every July for a month with the T-6 to offer rides and also offers people to fly it, at a cost of course."
