Actually if you zoom in on the NW corner of the hole you'll see that the black hole is probably a "stitching error" between two images that were taken at different times. The smoke is actually cloud cover. You can see the clouds cut off at the seem NW of the hole.
Strange, they are using a new set of base maps but the hole is still sort of there. It looks like they kind of fake the covering of the hole by bluring the edges. You can still make out the straight edge of the hole along the to if you zoom in though. Less noticable than before for sure though.
