Description:Situated on the Syrian border, Al Qaim has been a frequent battlefield: "On 07 April 2005 insurgent fighters took over Al-Qaim and forced Iraqi army units and police to leave the city. More than 70 'Iraqi policemen' deserted their positions. An influx of 150-200 Resistance fighters from the neighboring cities of Hit, Haditha and Fallujah joined the battle." (Global Security.Org)
