Cropmark of Roman Fort

Cropmark of Roman Fort (Google Maps)
No Thumbnail
Just outside Bradford Abbas in Dorset, England, a photograph, taken by chance in 2010 by a reconnaissance aircraft, reveals the outlines of a Roman camp in the Dorset Countryside. Strips of different coloured crops show the outline of the fort, spreading across different fields. The cropmarks are also clearly visible in several Google Earth satellite images.

The cropmarks show the outline of a Roman camp that served as a temporary post, between different forts, for Roman soldiers on marches across the country.

Select the "Historical Imagery" feature on Google Earth and go to the image from the 31st December 2009 to see the best imagery of the cropmarks.
